I love the creative industry
Not all of us are fortunate to be born with an infectious enthusiasm, boundless energy and a passion for what we do. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. I’ve been at the forefront of the Australian creative industry for over 20 years and loved every minute of it.
My story starts when I graduated from RMIT with a degree in photography in the late 1980s. After a brief stint working in commercial photography in Australia I headed off to London. There I worked in the world of TV production for HTV West before heading home to Melbourne.
It was the founding of The Flash Place in 1994 that really marked the beginning of my unwavering commitment to photography, photographers and creatives. The Flash Place represented commercial photographers, actively connecting them with the industry. I joined Dux Creative Consultancy in 1998 where I managed the careers of photographers and creatives including art directors, designers, copywriters and illustrators.
Sally Brownbill and The Brownbill Effect
In 2002 the Sally Brownbill story hit its straps when I merged my passion for photography and knowledge of the creative industry and founded Sally Brownbill Consulting. Sally Brownbill Consulting focused on connecting and promoting photographers and creatives. The Brownbill Effect emerged as a logical extension to Sally Brownbill Consulting and in 2013 I created the online creative directory with the sole purpose of promoting and connecting photographers and creatives with business. In 2016 I launched the next logical extension, TBE Jobs, a full-time recruitment hub spanning the design, advertising, corporate, communications and photography space.
The photographer’s advocate
I’m deeply immersed in the Australian photographic industry, promoting and shaping the futures of aspiring and professional photographers, by providing career leadership and advice through working as a lecturer, mentor, judge and portfolio consultant.
